Giving Back To The Community

RL Peek Painting and the Young Men’s Service League recently revitalized the Park City Senior Center’s dining room with a fresh, carefully chosen coat of paint. Spearheaded by Marianne Cone, a member of the center’s board of trustees, the project aimed to brighten up the space and create a more welcoming environment for the senior community. Bob Peek, owner of RL Peek Painting, donated his time and expertise, ensuring the painting was done professionally while mentoring volunteers. With contributions from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams, who provided paint and equipment, the effort came together in just eight hours over a weekend, making a dramatic transformation from the dark brown paneling of 1976 to a fresh, modern look. Volunteers, including local mothers and sons from the Young Men’s Service League, worked tirelessly under Peek’s supervision, mastering the techniques of painting panel grooves, achieving crisp lines, and ensuring full coverage.

The impact of the Park City Senior Center makeover was immediate and deeply appreciated by its members. Seniors like Linda McReynolds and Sean Marron praised the new, lighter color, which enhanced the space and created a more inviting atmosphere. “Just wait until the sunlight comes in—it makes me feel good,” said McReynolds, reflecting on the change. The volunteers took pride in their work, knowing that their efforts would bring joy to the center’s visitors for years to come. Bob Peek emphasized the value of community-driven service projects, stating, “This is what I’ve done in Park City for 39 years, and it’s my way of giving back.” The project not only refreshed the senior center but also provided the young volunteers with a valuable life skill and a lasting sense of accomplishment. As Peggy Fletcher described it, the newly painted room was a “fresh renewal”, reinforcing the power of teamwork and local generosity in transforming community spaces.
